I am so conflicted about this. I believe we should be in person if we can be, but I also believe we should take steps to protect each other. The challenges to large institutions are so much more significant than those to smaller schools. As the parent of a student who will start his first year of college in the fall, I hope that his institution (Reed) has at least part of the term in-person, as I think it will be important for my child's transition to college. But, I also hope that all institutions will do what will keep faculty and students safe.

Interesting article in The Chronicle of Higher Education about a survey asking readers how they felt about plans for the Fall semester.

The story also contains a link to a database of Fall semester plans by institution.

70% are planning on reopening in-person. Does that seem realistic? What kinds of contingency plans are your institutions making? What sort of support will we need to make this happen?
