Hello all!

I'm a PhD student in an Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology program. We are working on developing a mentorship framework/policy/agreement for our PhD program to improve transparency and ensure that graduate students are getting the support they need through the program. While we hope these guidelines will serve everyone well, we want to attend specifically to issues of marginalization and equity that can come up in mentoring processes. In short, we'd like to develop equitable mentorship policies/procedures, acknowledging the diversity of research that happens within our program and different needs that mentors and mentees may have.

I'm reaching out to you all because we are hoping to collect resources and examples from programs similar to our own - e.g., psych, human development, applied psychology, etc. Do any of you have mentorship policies within your programs that you would be willing to share? The goal here is to establish a clear sense of what the norms are in these fields as well as getting ideas for our own policies. Of course, if you do not have a policy but have resources to share, that would also be greatly appreciated as well!

This topic is so important to discuss, especially given our transition to online teaching and learning for the foreseeable future. I attached a resource that my colleagues and I use to inform our mentoring of Master of Public Health (MPH) students at Michigan State University. It may be helpful and something that you can adapt for your students at BC.
