I know a lot of you have been trying. I was wondering how it's going.

Thanks for the prompt Josh. It would be great to use this site to share lessons learned.

For example, how have people been navigating IRBs? On one of my projects we have been getting hung up on which platforms are considered sufficiently "secure" for handling and obtaining parental consent. Some people have suggested REDCap. I know it's been discussed on the CDS listserv. Any recommendations or alternatives? What are IRBs even accepting as online consent?

@Guadalupe Espinoza and @Yuko Okado, both posted on this earlier. How are things going?

    Dear all,

I'd like to make you aware of this initiative for developing a common framework for developmental studies online:

I wanted to bump this thread now that many have done online testing.

I am interested especially in executive function tasks administered online for K-2nd graders. I have the  participants already, so am less interested in recruitment and more in tasks/data collection.

However, given the general nature of this thread, would love to hear overall how it's working for everyone and what successes/challenges you've had.

    Thanks!

Teya, did you find some executive function tasks that would be appropriate for online testing? We've used the NIH Toolbox tasks on the iPad on campus, but that won't work for online. We're exploring adding some EF tasks along with some language tasks (maybe a Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test equivalent) online but haven't found any great options yet.

    Thanks!

Hi Candice. We are programming Hearts & Flowers into testable and it is looking good so far. We will also be doing a video administration of HTKS. Keeping performance-based measures limited (we will also be doing parent and teacher checklists), because we don't have a lot of money to pay participants for lengthy measurement sessions.

My team and I, we collected data from about 40 children (age 6 years - 12 years) in a study where we tested the children on two measures. 1 was an executive functioning task called Happy and Sad task (adapted from Kristin Hansen Lagattuta  Liat Sayfan, and Michael Monsour) - and second being the concept of knowledge behavior gap in resource sharing in two different Dictators Game Scenario. We used this website called lab.js.org to design and execute the experiments.

It went very smooth for us.

    Regards,

    Chirag

    Hi Candice

You mentioned using the NIH Toolbox tasks on an iPad, have you tried the NIH Toolbox Working Memory remote administered task via Zoom?

    Thanks, Vanessa

In case you haven't seen this, there is a new research topic in Frontiers on distance data collection/research in developmental science. Many different kinds of contributions are welcome. Check it out!
